HOW TO USE A DROID WITH MAC PT 2

Last night i blogged about how to use your droid with a mac... it has worked for some but not all.  So here are a few other ways you can get-er-done lol :-)

As Mac users, we’re often expected to fit within the lines of the Apple “ecosystem” – a Mac, iPhone, and maybe even an iPad. But the fact of the matter is that for many people, using something other than an iOS device just makes sense.
With that in mind, I’m going to try to break down those preconceived notions and help you get the most out of your Android device by using it in conjunction with your Mac. Read on and I can almost guarantee you’ll be surprised by what “Droid Does”, with the help of your Mac.

Manage your Media

Gone are the days where carrying anything but an iPhone meant you needed an iPod of some sort. In fact, many Android phones such as HTC’s “Beats” branded line offer an arguably better media experience than the iPhone. If you’re on the cutting edge of web technology, and you already use a service like Rdio or Spotify for your music, setup for an Android device with your Mac is about as easy as it gets – just install the respective app on both devices and let the Internet’s syncing abilities work their magic. If you’re like most people, though, your media library is filled with good ol’ MP3s and any number of video formats. In that case you’ll probably want to look into one of two solutions.
The first is to install a great (and free) app called DoubleTwist on both your Mac and Android device (link). DoubleTwist is best summed up as iTunes for people without iPods. You’ll get access to Google Play (née Android Market), a huge podcast library, and Amazon’s full MP3 Store. This solution works really well if you don’t want to change the way you’ve managed your media. It’s a traditional style “Jukebox” app, which is beginning to feel antiquated. Moreover, you’re still on your own for buying anything outside of Music and Podcasts.
DoubleTwist is more than just a media player.
DoubleTwist is more than just a media player.
The second solution is what I’d recommend for most people; and that’s to jump into the Google “ecosystem”. Google’s Play store offers music downloads on the cheap (with a free digital locker service), movie purchases and rentals, apps, and even eBooks. Google’s Music player works great with the Mac – it doesn’t have it’s own app, but the web based solution should be more than enough for most people.
Additionally, if you already have a Music library you’d like to store with Google, you can install the free Music Manager tool (link) to upload it seamlessly to the Google Cloud.
If you miss the feel of a native app, consider a solution like Fluid to make your own in seconds.
For Movies, Google offers a similarly simple solution: rentals and purchases can be made from either your computer or Android device and they play back on both perfectly. Of course, you’ll probably just use Netflix (link) anyway.
As far as TV shows, you are basically out of luck. Apple has a stranglehold on the cheap-day-after downloads market. You could try Hulu Plus, but be warned, the selection is almost as limited as the price is high (zing). If you already have video files on your Mac that you’d like to put on your Android device, just use the free Miro Video Converter to make the formats play nicely. It has Android presets built in, so conversion really is as easy as one click.
As for eBooks, although Google’s solution works just fine, Kindle is still king. Your Kindle books are readable almost everywhere, on almost every device. In addition the Kindle catalog puts Google’s to shame, and as if you weren’t already convinced, Amazon offers a free Kindle app for the Mac. The choice really couldn’t be more black-and-white.
Kindle for the Mac is an indispensable tool.
Kindle for the Mac is an indispensable tool.
If you’re looking to purchase apps, your two best choices are the Amazon Store and Google Play. You can manage your purchases using web interfaces on both, and the difference really comes down to price, selection, and of course, your personal preference. Either way, it’s not like you’re going to be running Android apps on your Mac.
Finally, since Android Phones store all their photos in an industry standard “DCIM” folder, your Mac should detect it as a digital camera as soon as you plug it in. From there you’ll be able to manage your pictures in any program you’d like, although iPhoto is always a great place to start. If you cringe at the thought of ever having to plug your phone into your Mac, consider using Dropbox’s “Automatic Upload” feature to wireless beam photos to your Dropbox folder on the desktop.

Email, Calendar, and Contacts

Now that we’ve covered all that media nonsense, let’s get down to business with your email, calendar, and contacts. While there are just about a million ways to do this, I’m going to show you how to hack Apple’s iCloud into working with Android and get Google’s apps working nicely on your Mac. Be warned, though, iCloud calendar is not available through Android, and everything else requires some trickery.
Adding a Google Account in Mac OS X Lion.
Adding a Google Account in Mac OS X Lion.
First off, if you’d like to use your iCloud email, contacts and, calendar on your Android device, you’re in luck. On the Mac end of the equation, just set up your iCloud account in System Preferences and be on your way. On the Android end, the solution and setup isn’t as seamless as it would be to use Google’s just own services, but hey – there are some things worth working for.
To use your iCloud mail, go into Mail account setup on your Android device and enter your credentials laid out in this guide. For contacts, use a free CardDAV app like this, and use “http://contacts.icloud.com” as your server. From there, just enter in your username as usual and don’t forget to check “SSL”. As I mentioned before, there still isn’t a way to use iCloud’s calendar with your Android device.
For most people, though, Google’s services should be more than enough. They’re much more friendly across platforms and work great with your Mac. Setup is surprisingly simple , just go into System Preferences and add your Google account. You’ll have options to sync your email and notes, calendar, and even your Google Chat. For contacts, just follow this Apple guide.

Bonus Round

I’ve covered quite a bit in this article, but this is really just the tip of the Android and Mac iceberg. If you want to push compatibility between the two even further, check out some of these apps and tools below. I won’t go to in-depth on them here, but we’ve covered most on either Android or Mac.AppStorm.
  1. AirDisplay – Wouldn’t it be nice to add another display to your Mac? How about if it was wireless? If that sounds like something you’d like look no further.
  2. DroidCloud – This app is the answer to many a CloudApp fan’s prayers; a native Android client.
  3. AirSync – This app does quite a bit, including giving your Android Phone the ability to stream content over AirPlay. That’s worth every penny.

Let me know if this helped you out, or if you have any other questions.  Leave a comment , tweet or e-mail

creating a custom root for the Android LG viper 4g LTE

Hi everybody!!!! As you all know i am always talking about mac this and iphone/ipod that.  Well as of recently due to personal issues i have "temporarily" lost access to my iPhone.... (i know it sucks and the issue wil be resolved shortly ;-( ) BUT!!!!!....

I have taken this time off ( which couldnt have come at a worse time, as i finaly just got my new macbook pro) to venture off into another direction... ANDROID ROOTING. And yes it is annoying as all hell and if you hate tweeting around with files or dont have any knowledge or even know Lynix then i suggest u stick with ur normal iDevice or droid...

As a temporary fix to no iPhone i have recently acquired the new LG VIPER 4G LTE. Very nice phone in my opinion, contrary to all the reviews. Its sleek and fast and the display, even tho only 4.5 inches (slightly bigger than the 3gs)  is very clear and great. And, for all you green freaks out there, the device is made of 50% recycled materials and the box is 100% recycled cardboard, as is all the manuals that we all love to never read. The only issues i have run into are. First, this is the first device i have ever bought that dosent have f***n ear buds lmao. But who dosent have a set of skull candies sitting around. Also,  is with the face book app, which apparently i am not the only one (not just LG VIPER), as it has over 800k 1 star ratings. But im more of a twitter guy than FB so it dosent bum me out that much :-)

Well, as everyone knows Jailbreaking is the "Hacking" for iPhones/Pads and Pods. But, when it comes to Androids you dont have a nice simple one click and wait for your phone to now be your best friend. You have to search for your droid make and modle and find a program that someone made. THERE IS NO ONE UNIVERSAL ROOTING PROGRAM which SUUUUCCCCKKKSSS.

So, that all being said presently i am now working on a root for everyone who wants to ROOT their LG Viper 4G LTE. As soon as i am done with it it i will post the download link for both WIN/ an MAC :-)

Any questions or comments, as usual please feel free to comment tweet or email me :-)

HOW TO JAILBREAK IOS6 BETA 3!!!!

Now that the iPhone Dev Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.13dev3, it’s easy to jailbreak the latest iOS 6 beta 3 release. This jailbreak will also work with previous versions of iOS 6 beta, such as iOS 6 beta 2.
Bear in mind that this is still a tethered jailbreak, and it will not install Cydia on your device. Since you must point to the current beta firmware, you need to be a developer so that you can access iOS 6 beta 3.
If you meet these requirements, then step right inside as we walk you though using RedSn0w 0.9.13dev3 to jailbreak an iPhone 4 running iOS 6 beta 3

Step 1: Download and run RedSn0w 0.9.13dev3.
Step 2: Place your device into DFU mode.
Step 3: In RedSn0w click Extras > Select IPSW and point to your iOS 6 beta 3 firmware. RedSn0w should display a message stating that the firmware was successfully identified.
Step 4: Go back to the main page of RedSn0w and click jailbreak. Once preliminary configuration is complete, ensure Install SSH is selected, and continue. The jailbreak process should finish to completion.
Step 5: Once back to the Home screen on your device, place the device back into DFU mode, and perform Step 3 again.
Step 6: Click Just boot under the Extras menu subset, and RedSn0w will perform a tethered boot on your device.
That’s all there is to it, your device should now be jailbroken running iOS 6 beta 3. Keep in mind that while this will install SSH on your device, it will not install Cydia. If you want Cydia, then try the iOS 6 Cydia installation tutorial.

SAFARI DOWNLOAD MANAGER FOR IOS6

iOS power-users can finally chill out, the popular jailbreak utility Safari Download Manager is finally compatible with iOS 5. The tweak, developed by Dustin Howett, gives us a large amount of control over your mobile downloads.

SDM has long-since been a favorite in the jailbreak community, but has recently been all-but-forgotten due to its lack of iOS 5 support. But now it’s back, and better than ever. Here’s my input on SDM beta 2...

Safari Download Manager 2.0 still integrates seamlessly into mobile Safari. Once installed, you will be able to download practically any file type to your iOS device that you would be able to download on your desktop.
SDM also allows you to download multiple files at once (up to 10), and choose which folder each one goes into. Out of the box, the tweak supports a number of common file types, but you can add additional types as you see fit.
As you might expect from a high-powered tweak like this, it’s a bit pricey. Obviously, previous owners will get the update for free. But new customers will have to fork over $5. If you’re interested, you can find SDM in Cydia, in the BigBoss repo.

But there are always pirate repos you can get it from. i DO NOT condone this act but if you find it deemed necessary then please support the dev. and donate :-)

Windows 8 metro interface for your iPhone

You can check out the look and feel of Microsoft's Windows 8 Metro interface on your iPhone thanks to a new DreamBoard theme called Metroon available on Cydia.

The Metroon theme can be enabled via the DreamBoard jailbreak app. The theme is quite feature rich. It comes with a Windows Phone-like lock screen, start screen, notifications, volume controls and the swipe up to unlock feature.

The theme also brings the Charms bar to the iPhone, which can be activated when you swipe from the right-side of the screen. It gives you quick access to the Settings and Spotlight search.

You can switch to the iOS Home screen by tapping on the Desktop tile. You can press the Home button to switch back to the Windows 8 user interface.

Tapping on the tiles on the start screen launches the default iOS app. For example: tapping on the Internet Explorer tile launches mobile Safari.

The theme also brings the Live tiles feature, which displays real-time information from some of the apps running in the background. You can swipe down on the tile to turn off or on the live tile feature as well as to change the size and position of the tile or unpin (remove) the tile from the Start screen.

You can also customize the colors and backgrounds.

Enjoy:-) and as always please... Any questions or interests feel free to comment , tweet me @ichuckydee or e-mail me ichuckydee6885@gmail.com

FIND OUT WHOS NOT FOLLOWING YOU OR UNFOLLOWED YOU

When you’re following lot of people on Twitter, be it hundred or thousands, the key factor is to keep the noise to the minimum. And a very important step is to keep away from following spam accounts. Having said that, spam has different meaning to different people on Twitter. For some it could be bots (for most of us), while for some its people who RT a lot, and for some its people who don’t follow back.
I make it a regular practice to unfollow people who aren’t following me back. It makes sense that way right ? I do it once a while so that it all balances out.
There are many applications available today that will let you unfollow non-reciprocating tweeps. One that I regularly use is – this one.
Its a very simple tool that will easily pull out a list of all the people who aren’t following you back on Twitter.
It also fetches you a list of people whom you aren’t following back.

It looks like Twitter is getting ready to release a major update for their iPhone and iPad app, based on the change log discovered by 9to5Mac in the redesigned App Store in iOS 6.

According to the leaked change log of the upcoming update - Twitter 4.3 will include features such as a interactive Tweet view experience, enhanced notifications, searching, performance and lots more.

Here's the list of what's coming in Twitter 4.3:

Discover more interactive experiences inside any Tweet: when you view tweet details containing links to partner websites, you can now see content previews, view images, play videos and more
Special experience around selected events: we’ll curate accounts and surface the best Tweets and photos from the those involved
Improvements to autocomplete suggestions when you search for people in Connect
Push Notifications for Tweets: you can know immediately when selected people you follow have tweeted

What do you think? Sound off in the comments below.

UltraSn0w 1.2.7 Supported iPhone Basebands
  • iPhone 4 on baseband 01.59.00
  • iPhone 3G/3GS basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, and 06.15.00
*In order to see if you have one of the supported basebands on your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS you will need to go into the Settings.app > General > About and look for the Modem Firmware field.

How To Unlock iPhone With UltraSn0w 1.2.7

Step 1: You must already be running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware on your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS, and you must also be Jailbroken on the iOS 5.1.1 firmware. If your iPhone is not Jailbroken you can look at my previous blogs for a detailed "how to".

Step 2: After your iPhone is running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware and is Jailbroken you will need to simply launch Cydia from your SpringBoard.

Step 3: Once Cydia is up and running you will need to go into the Sources page. To go into the Sources page tap Manage followed by Sources.

Step 4: Typically, the UltraSn0w repo is included with Cydia. If not, tap the Edit button followed by the Add button and you will be prompted to add a URL source. Type:
http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
Followed by tapping the Add Source button.

Step 5: Cydia will automatically refresh and update sources.

Step 6: After Cydia is done refreshing sources. Tap the Search tab on the bottom tab bar and search for UltraSn0w. Once UltraSn0w appears, tap on it and you should see version 1.2.7. Read through the description and tap the install button to install UltraSn0w 1.2.7 to your iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS  running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware.
Note: In case you are not familiar with UltraSn0w, it is a software unlock for your iPhone meaning you can use your iPhone with any carrier by simply inserting the SIM card.
Ultrasn0w 1.2.7 iOS 5.1.1 unlock

Step 7: When UltraSn0w is installed you must restart your iPhone, plug in your unofficial SIM card and wait for your iPhone to connect to your network.

Congratulations! You should now have an unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS running the iOS 5.1.1 firmware.

Download RedSn0w 0.9.14b2 With Improved 06.15.00

Download RedSn0w 0.9.14b2 With Improved 06.15.00 Baseband Downgrade And New “DFU IPSW” Feature

Earlier today i stated that MuscleNerd would be updating RedSn0w to include an improved 06.15.00 baseband downgrade. Sure enough MuscleNerd tweeted this evening that Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 is now available to download that fixes the 06.15.00 baseband downgrade for new bootrom iPhone 3GS’ and also adds a new “DFU IPSW” feature. Essentially what this will do is allow an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with broken buttons to enter DFU mode for a Jailbreak. This is done by restoring to an IPSW that you can currently restore to without any hacks or pawnage steps. MuscleNerd mentions that it still requires nearly an entire legit restore to kick in.
Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 Download
This new “DFU IPSW” feature is extremely useful because in the past if you had a broken hardware button it meant you would not be able to enter DFU mode period. At least now those with broken buttons will still be able to enter DFU mode and take advantage of future Jailbreaks.

If you would like to download RedSn0w 0.9.14b2 for your Windows or Mac OS X computer you can go to the iJailbreak Downloads Section

New iPad mini

Bloomberg among many other smaller sites are reporting that Apple plans to release a smaller version of their iPad this year. The tablet will be between 7 and 8 inches containing a display of 1024 x 768 pixels. Bloomberg’s report matches up with the October date perviously speculated by iMore. iMore additionally stated that the device will cost as low as $199 and $250 for the two models that will be offered. Little information is known, however many people have produced design mockups trying to capture the feel of this possible new device.

New Tweak for iPhone and iPad Google app

You gotta love our vast jailbreak community. It hasn't even been a week since google released the chrome app for iphones and pads and we've already seen a number of tweaks that make it even better. I've already told you about Browserchooser that allows you to make Chrome the default browser on your iPhone and iPad. But not i would like to tell you about Chromizer!!

Chromizer is a new tweak that enhances the Chrome browser with these awsome features:
  • Pull to refresh
  • Full screen mode (toggle with three finger tap)
  • iPhone style tab switching
  •
  •
  • I found it strange that Google didn't implement the popular "pull-to-refresh" option, especially when it was forced to place the refresh button under the menu option (due to lack of space).
Full screen mode is also a nice addition. Apple has added it to Safari in IOS6

ChromeURL is another jailbreak tweak for Chrome, which replaces the custom keyboard, in case you're missing the top-level keyboard shortcuts. While the custom keyboard is a good idea, it was odd that Google left out the top-level domain keyboard shortcuts.

Unfortunately, as Nisud points out, the space bar is missing from the keyboard, which is a deal breaker if you want to use the popular omnibar feature.

Chromizer and ChromeURL are both available for free in Cydia. Download them and let us know what you think in the comments below.

How to install Cydia via SSH for IOS6

A tethered jailbreak was released for iOS 6 running on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation. While it was great to have a jailbreak so soon, the jailbreak didn’t include any GUI tools like Cydia, only SSH and afc2 support were added.

Fortunately, now that we have SSH access, we can simply transfer and install pretty much anything on our jailbroken iOS 6 devices, including Cydia.

Step 1: Jailbreak, and boot tethered your iOS 6 device. (if you need to learn how to jailbreak IOS6 just check out my older blogs and you will b set to go)

Step 2: SSH into your device (you must be on a local WiFi network and get your devices IP address) there are tons of other SSH tools available on the Mac. Tools like Putty work well on Windows. SSH username = “root” SSH password = “alpine”

Note: when asked for server name you want to enter your device ip address

Step 3: Execute the following command via SSH (copy and paste): wget -q -O /tmp/cyinstall.sh http://wyndrepo.googlecode.com/files/cyinstall.sh && chmod 755 /tmp/cyinstall.sh && /tmp/cyinstall.sh

Step 4: Your device will respring, and Cydia should now appear on your Home screen. Open Cydia, and it will begin Preparing Filesystem. It will then respring.

Step 5: Now you can use Cydia and start installing apps and tweaks via Cydia.

NOTE: most apps and tweaks have not been updated with iOS 6 in mind, so your mileage may vary as far as compatibility is concerned. Proceed at your own risk.
